Handcrafted Wooden Hair Pick
I have received countless requests over the years for finely crafted wooden versions of cheap plastic combs. The most requested is the comb usually referred to as the hair pick or afro comb. Until recently I offered only my handcrafted wooden version of the classic design. However, I have been convinced by some of my clients that I should also offer smaller versions that would fit more comfortably into a pocket or purse.
I carve my hair picks from cocobolo, one of the hardest and most durable wood species. It is also said to be the world's most beautiful. In addition to its durability and striking appearance, cocobolo's high proportion of resin makes it naturally water resistant, so you needn't worry about using it when your hair is damp.
The Classic Afro Pick and Classic Afro Pick with Fist Handle have eleven tines and are 7.5 Inches tall and 2.85 inches wide. The Compact Hair Pick has ten tines, is 6.5 Inches tall and 2.75 inches wide. The Pocket Hair Pick also has ten tines, is 5.5 Inches tall and 2.5 inches wide.
My Classic Afro Pick was featured in the December/January issue of Essence magazine.
